Dawson Bucs Sign another Basketball Player
6’7 Roniel Oguekwe signed a Letter of Intent to play for the Dawson Community Buccaneers. Roniel was born in Nigeria, grew up in Ireland and is currently studying and playing in England.
“Roniel’s work ethic and athleticism are a great addition for us,” said Dawson Coach Joe Peterson. “His upside is tremendous. I see him growing by leaps and bounds because of his drive and desire. He will put in the time early in the morning to get better. I like how he can defend any position and will always rebound. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know him through the recruiting process. He is personable and intelligent. What a great addition for DCC and Glendive!”
In his Elite Academy Basketball League (EABL season he averaged 11 points, 12 rebounds and shot 49% from the field. He was 4th in the country in rebounding and 10th in efficiency. Their 2021-2022 EABL record was 8-4. They went 11-1 in the 2020-2021 season and finished the year losing in the National Quarterfinals to the eventual National Champions, Charnwood Academy.
Roniel also competed with the Irish National Team at the Euros Under 16 level.
His Coach Dan Pearson commented, “Ronnie was the definition of an energy man for our program at every level throughout the past two seasons. Ronnie’s athleticism and motor are elite and he can genuinely defend 1-5 while rebounding with the best of them. Most notably, Ronnie’s commitment to growth and developing his game will certainly see his trajectory continue to trend upwards as he adds years to his basketball life. Ronnie is a late bloomer with a bright future ahead of him. Dawson is getting themselves a gem of a young man who will quickly become a team and community favorite for those who get to spend time with him.”
