Four DCC Basketball Players Sign with Four-year Schools
Four members of the DCC Buccaneers Region Championship team signed their National Letters of Intent this week. 6’0 twin brothers Jajuan and Jalen Tot from Dallas, TX are going to be transferring to Montana State University-Billings. Cordell Stinson and Riley Spoonhunter will be moving on to Dickinson State University in North Dakota.
Spoonhunter, Stinson and the Tots have helped the Bucs to a 50-9 record the past two seasons and back to back Region Championships. In 2021, they led Dawson to their first ever appearance at Nationals.
Jajuan was an All-Conference and All-Region selection last year and averaged 9.1 ppg, 4.1 apg 3.2 rpg, and 1.9 spg this year. He is a true point guard who runs the team and gets others involved, but also has the ability to score. He is a great defender on and off the ball and plays the game with a high IQ.
Jalen was an All-Conference and All-Region selection this season. He led the team with 10.8 ppg and also averaged 2.9 rpg, 2.6 apg, and a conference leading 2.2 spg. Jalen is a feisty, quick and competitive combo guard who has a knack for making plays on the defensive end by jumping passing lanes and taking charges. He uses his athleticism to get to the rim and is a good shooter from 3-point range.
MSU Billings is a Division II school in the GNAC Conference and finished fourth in the league this past season. They return a majority of their players from this past year, but need to replace two guards, which makes the Tots a perfect fit.
“I’m really proud of these two,” shared Dawson Coach Joe Peterson. “A lot of people underrate them because of their size, but they are so competitive and have great basketball IQ’s. I think they will fit in great with Coach Durham’s returning team and his system. They know how to win!”
Stinson and Spoonhunter will be playing for former Montana Griz star Derek Selvig at Dickinson State next year.
The 6’5 Stinson is an athletic forward with a well-rounded offensive game, good ball skills and vision who can attack off the dribble and shoot from the outside. He can guard any position on the defensive end. As a sophomore, he averaged 6.2 ppg, 4.3 rpg and 1.4 apg. Stinson comes from Reno, Nevada.
Hailing from Browning, MT, the 6’3 Spoonhunter is a sharpshooter with a good feel and understanding for the game. He averaged 7.0 ppg, 2.0 rpg and 1.2 apg as a sophomore and made 94 3-pointers and only missed 3 free throws in his two years as a Buccaneer.
“Cordell and Spoon will be great assets to the Dickinson program,” added Coach Peterson. “Cordell brings athleticism and versatility while Spoon will give them an outside threat. I know Coach Selvig will push them and get the most out of their abilities.”
