Dawson’s Kennedy Brown Signs with D1 Nebraska-Omaha
University of Nebraska Omaha’s new men's basketball coach Chris Crutchfield announced the signing of Kennedy Brown from Dawson Community College. Crutchfield was hired as the head coach at his alma mater a month ago. The Mavericks are a D1 school that competes in the Summit League with South Dakota State and North Dakota among others.
"Kennedy is a big, strong, and mobile power forward that plays with a relentless motor," said Crutchfield. "Kennedy also has the ability to step out and play on the perimeter. We are excited to add his physical presence and size to our roster. We cannot wait to see his improvement over the next three years.”
Brown helped the Buccaneers go 50-9 during his two years in Glendive and win two region championships. He averaged 10 points and 6.3 rebounds while shooting 47% from the field, 38% from 3-point range and 84% from the free throw line. He was named All-Conference Second Team for his efforts. Brown led the team and league with 40 blocks on the season.
"I chose to go to Omaha because I felt Coach Crutchfield was consistent and genuine," said Brown. "Omaha just feels right. It feels like family. I feel Omaha is the best place for me to become a better person, student, and athlete. I'm excited."
The Chicago native appeared in 28 games and made 22 starts at Dawson.
"We are so excited for Kennedy to take this next step at Omaha," said Dawson head coach Joe Peterson. "It seems like a great fit for him to work with a great coaching staff who will help him develop and bring out the potential in him. His athleticism and shot should translate well at the Division I level."
