Dawson Secures Lop-sided Road Win
The DCC Buccaneers were on fire in the first half on the road at Dakota College Bottineau Sunday afternoon. They shot 61.5% from the field and 50% from the 3-point line while forcing 12 turnovers and dominating the boards 18-9 as they rode to a 57-29 half-time advantage. The Bucs cooled down in the second half but still outscored the Lumberjacks 44-37 to secure the victory 101-66. It was the 3rd time Dawson has beaten DCB this year.
“I loved our effort on the defensive end in the first half,” said Dawson Coach Joe Peterson. “We really made it tough on them. When we defend like that, it just opens up opportunities on the offensive end. We have a lot of weapons and a lot of different ways to beat you.”
Reggie Martin and Michael Jok led the attack in the first half with 11 points and 10 points respectively. Five different guys connected from long range. Dawson scored 25 points in the first half off of turnovers, compared to DCB’s two. For the game, three starters and three guys off the bench all reached double figures. All eleven Buccaneers who suited up got into the scoring column and rebounding column. Kennedy Brown led the way with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Martin tabbed 17 points and 8 rebounds. Jok had 12 points and 5 rebounds. DeAngelo Horn, Cordell Stinson and Akili Prince all had 11 points. That was Prince’s career high.
Surafel Berhanie led the Lumberjacks with 17 points.
Dawson finished the game shooting 51% from the field 83% from the free throw line.
The win pushes Dawson’s record to 21-5 overall and 13-4 in conference. The Bucs will return home on Thursday for their final home game of the year. They will be honoring their 9 sophomores in their game against Williston. The Bucs beat Williston 81-78 in November and lost to them 74-70 in January.
