Dawson Inks 6’7 Transfer
With the school year set to start in less than two weeks, the Dawson Buccaneer Basketball team announced another signing. 6’7 forward David Ajanaku is the 10th freshman signee to join the Buccaneers this summer. Ajanaku is originally from Nigeria, but spent his last three years of high school in America at Woodside Priory in California. After graduation, he played for College of the Sequoias this past season.
Dawson Coach Joe Peterson shared about his latest signing, “We are excited to get a high character, high academic guy who has size and strength like David. He’s got great potential, but just needs an opportunity to play more and grow into that potential. Guys like him have found a lot of success in our program.”
Ajanaku’s older brother, Emmanuel, plays down the road from Dawson at MSU-Billings.
As a senior in high school, Ajanaku led Priority to a 14-2 record overall and 12-0 in league play during the shortened 2020-2021 season as they won their league and qualified for their first ever bid to the California Open Division playoffs. He averaged 14.3 points per game, 10.1 rebounds and shot 55.7% from the field. He was selected 1st Team West Bay Athletic League.
In his junior year, he averaged 12 points per game, leading Woodside Priory to an 18-8 season (10-4 in the league) which was a 9 win improvement from the previous year. As a sophomore, he scored 13.1 ppg. He also led his team in free shooting percentage as a sophomore and junior. Ajanaku scored 765 points during his three year high school career.
“I’m excited to join the Buccaneers family,” Ajanaku said. “I can’t wait to see my brothers and compete!”
