Sophomore 6’2” Center, Maria Zimdars, of Dawson Community College Women’s Basketball Lady Buccaneers, has officially signed her National Letter of Intent to play her next two remaining collegiate basketball seasons at the University of Mobile located in Mobile, Alabama.
Zimdars, who transferred from NCAA Division 2 University of Mary, recorded six double doubles in points and rebounds this past season. She averaged 9.2 points, 8 rebounds with a 44% field goal percentage and 70% from the foul line. Her career highs included 28 points and 18 rebounds in a single game. Maria has also a 4.0 gpa.
University of Mobile Head Coach Billy Evans said, “Maria brings to our program a great inside presence that we will need next year. She offers us an additional scorer. She fits in with the NAIA core values, which goes along with our philosophy as a school and team. I expect Maria to be a strong leader. We are going to be a young team and she will be one of our older more mature players.
DCC Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. said, “I’ve known Maria since her senior year in high school. After her commitment to play for DCC, we worked together to improve her individual skill work as a post player. She still has lots of upside to her, and Mobile will be getting a player who still has potential untapped. I believe Maria knows what she has to do physically, mentally and spiritually to achieve her goals at the higher level and have Mobile back in the post season in Billings, MT for the NAIA National Tournament next season,” said DCC Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr.
“I’m choosing to continue my education and basketball career at The University of Mobile because it is a wonderful opportunity that I cannot pass up. I feel so welcome by the coaching staff and current players and think it is going to be a great fit for me for the next 2 years,” commented Maria Zimdars.
