DCC Men’s Basketball Signs Two out of Houston

DCC Men’s Basketball Coach Joe Peterson announced the signing of Simon Falokun and David Shepard.

Simon Falokun is a 6’7 forward from Alief Taylor High School (TX).  He is the all-time leading rebounder at Alief Taylor and 3rd highest scorer of all time at that school.  He was 2nd Team All-District as a sophomore and junior and 1st team as a senior this past season.  He was also named MVP of the Dawg House Invitational.  He averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks per game.  His team finished the season 21-13, placed 3rd in the district and eventually lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs.  Simon is a long-armed interior player that can rise above the rim and scores with crafty moves.  He really knows how to go after the ball on the boards.  Simon is an excellent student with high academic aspirations to go along with his athletic pursuits.

Simon had this to say, “I chose Dawson because I loved the conversations between Coach Peterson and me.  He convinced me that this college would be the best fit for me.  Also, I wanted a chance to be away from home and become more independent.  I feel like this school will help me also in my life achievement and become the person I want to be.”

Simon’s AAU teammate, David Shepard also signed to play for the Bucs.  Shepard is a 6’1 combo guard who averaged 17 ppg while shooting 55% from 2 point range, 45% from 3 point range and 85% from the free throw line.  Shepard is a tough and competitive guard who uses his speed to score and he can score in bunches.  He was a 1st Team All-District selection at Houston Lamar High School (TX).  Their season ended in the state tournament with a 2 point overtime loss to the eventual state champion.  Shepard commented, “I’m ready to be a Buccaneer and help my team win!”

Coach Peterson was elated to sign this duo, “Simon brings size and athleticism to our program.  He can score inside and can dominate the glass.  I love his aggressiveness inside.  Shep is a winner.  His competitiveness and fire rubs off on his teammates.  He can score in multiple ways.  They both really want to win and will do whatever it takes to succeed!  I can’t wait to start coaching them.”

Falokun and Shepard will join the recruiting class that already includes Trey Layman from Belgrade, Reece Green from Great Falls CMR and Dylan Brower from Syracuse, Utah; along with several high quality walk-ons.  Only 4 Buccaneers are returning from last season, so Coach Peterson is still working on adding some more impact players for the 2017-2018 season.
